the tunnel and beyond

The last Advanced Computational Mechanics class on Friday 26th Oct marked the end of lectures as an undergraduate. I can't remember my first lecture as a first year student, so I guess that shows how long I've been in uni.. too long. All the blood, sweat and tears, it's gonna be over soon. Somehow a part of me says I wanna savour it a little bit longer. Life goes on I guess.

Anyway after lecture, I rushed off to finish an assignment. Then in the afternoon I had a nice time at the movies, playing pool and dinner. Haven't had such a pleasant time in a while. Fitting end to the end of lectures, albeit a bit strange. Boooo..

Working life beckons.. Now that I've come this close to the light at the end of the undergraduate tunnel. But what lies beyond is a new ball game, there's no concrete walls to keep the ball inside, so it'll be me that shapes where the ball goes I guess. I've just received good news, and bad news...

On another note, I'm going to the Australian Open!! woohoo..

Will I?
4 years of undergraduate years is finally drawing to a close in the coming week. Starting to feel the uncertainty enveloping me as much as I would like to savour this supposedly momentous occasion. Still rummaging through a deep pile of assignment work, which sums it up so aptly.. the years in mechanical engineering has been as such - assignments, assignments and more assignments , all due either on the same day or close to each other. When it's all over, I don't know whether I'll say yeah, those were the 'fun' days or whether I'll say good riddance to the fact that lecturers derive their pleasure out of seeing undergraduates pull all nighters to complete their assignments. I know some will vehemently insist otherwise, but I think I have been rather slack this semester. Oh well.

Wondering how will final week be.. will the myriad feelings overwhelm us all. Will I be nostalgic, will I be sad, will I be happy, will I feel free, will I be thankful, will I heave a sigh of relief, will I be hopeful? I guess I will..

Absolutely drained from the week that's passed. Physically and emotionally. Firstly the oral examination was quite something I've not expected, and coupled with that the constant rescheduling of times which made life difficult for us. And now we've got 2 more presentations to go, which I'm quite stressed about. The exhibition was not so bad.. Find it hard to swallow that I was actually one of the exhibitors this time instead of a passer by. Somehow though I feel much could be better with my project, it's been a constant struggle throughout the year working with groupmates I've never worked with, and at times my patience did wear thin. I just hope somewhere along the line I've managed to get something out of this experience and deal with this sort of thing better in the future.

Had another oral interview for another subject's assignment on fri, and didn't really expect the kind of drilling we had to endure, but it went allright overall I guess. I had few hours to prepare bs for fri nite, thank God it was alright. So, that was the most full-on week this year. It may be even more intense in the coming weeks. I seem to have miscalculated how free I'd be after this. There's 3 presentations and 3 assignments to go through in the next 2 weeks. Holy cow...

Today I joined some to go to this si chuan food place in chinatown. Apparently the food there is known to be very very spicy. We ordered some chicken, duck, eggplants and beef. Wasn't exactly as hot as I would have expected it to be from wl's accounts. But nevertheless was still sweating profusely..hahaha. The chicken was served in a mountain of dried chillis, they might have as well called it chillis with chicken instead. Not only chillis, they had pepper seeds on it too. talk about spicy.

It's hard to reflect on the last 2 weeks of uni when you've got so much on your plate. oh well.

A Wedding in Spring
I've finally submitted my thesis. What a frantic rush it was. Slept only a few hours, and went to uni at the most ungodly hours (well, didn't I do that for practically the whole year already). Still have presentations and exhibition to follow though. Will only be relatively free by end of next week.

By the way, I went to this courtyard wedding of Gavin and Boz last weekend. It was beautiful - the weather, the people, the music, the ceremony itself..also, special mention must be reserved for the exquisite lunch served afterwards.

A collage of pictures taken with the lovely ladies and gentlemen of ocf. ..

My pictures certainly don't do justice to the beautiful scenes that day..

Interestingly, there's been a lot of mention of marriage in ocf/church lately. haha.. just a random observation.

Final rush underway..
