the year that was
Hardly much time to reflect on the year that was, as my mum and sis are still here in Melbourne, but I'll try anyway! Well, what can I say, to summarise the year in a few words is hard to do, and certainly, this year as I look back would be a year of constant surprises.

Of course it wouldn't be complete if I didn't mention uni. Final year it was, and honestly I didn't know what to expect at the start of the year. Final year project selection was a bit hasty, and I ended up with partners which I've never worked with before. The project really tested my patience and endurance, as I faced communication challenges and long hours in the RabiT labs, a home for the later part of the year which I've grown to love and hate. Those long nights in the labs were indeed memorable. 1st semester subjects were the most challenging, with 2nd sem subjects cooling off a bit in intensity. Swot vacs became a looked forward to event because I got to hang out with cool ocf people more in fact, surprisingly. ahhaa...With much stress and determination, I managed to scrap through the fyp, and the exams.. A graduate I am, all thanks to God.

In OCF, I was a bit laid back in terms of service because of the busy schedule, but a challenge I took up was bible study leading. Only once in the first semester, then in July Camp co leading wif g ping was quite fun. led more times in 2nd semester. Really thank God for my wonderful group which made the final year in ocfcarlton much more enjoyable.

Also, the friendships I've built in the past year has been pleasantly surprising. I'm surprised that I've grown closer to the people that I've not in the past thought of as people that I would be close to. Sadly, that would also mean that some people that I was close to have become a little bit distant. Saying goodbyes were so hard to do, and I dread going away to a new place next year where I've got no friends. Oh .. well...

Also this year I was working part time in 2nd semester, which got me some extra pocket money. Indeed a blessing I've never expected, and a job offer under way which I'm thankful for. What I've not expected was the move to Sydney next year, and as I look ahead to the new year, I wish I could relive 2007 again but I guess I have to move on. A challenging and demanding year lies ahead, and it would be much different than the 4 years that has been my undergraduate years. Indeed I don't know what to anticipate, but I'll go into the new year with expectations of greatness..

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 people!

Graduation and a trip to remember
Feels like I've not been on internet for ages. just completed a tasmania and sydney trip with mum and sis. But firstly, let's talk about the convocation. It was a balmy rainy day, but thankfully it wasn't pouring. Here's pictures to do the talking

Thanks Grace,Lydia,Toh Sin, Pei Ling and Ruth for making it!

Mum and Sis

Waiting for my turn

BEng in hand!

What a feeling! After 4 years of sweat and 'tears' , the finish line has been crossed. Thank God indeed.

The next day, we were off to Hobart to begin our Tasmanian adventure. Haha. Picked up a car, and went to Port Arthur after checking into our hotel. Such a beautiful and serene place. Ok I think I might not post pictures yet. I've got 6000++ pictures to sort out. Indeed the whole trip was picture perfect to try out my new D40x..hahaha. But I digress. After Hobart, we went to Orford where we did a bit of trekking on Maria Island, a beautiful island within 30minutes bumpy ferry ride from Orford. Poor mum, had to walk for hours under the sun. The next day was more relaxing, with a journey to Bicheno and then to some beaches around the area, also saw some penguins at night. The following day, we went to Freycinet National park and had to climb some 1000 steps to the lookout at Wineglass Bay, a spectacular sight to behold indeed, and much worth the steep climb. We even went to the beach which involved some serious climbing. Poor mum. Next day was more relaxing, with a journey to Binalong Bay (another beach), St Columba Falls (highest waterfall in Tasmania), lavender farm and the to Launceston. Had a nice motel room there too, very Victorian style. The next day we headed to Sydney, and straight after to the Harbour itself. Spent a whole day walking around the area. The next day we went to Bondi Beach and Darling Harbour. Went to aunt's house on Sunday, and also to the Sydney fish market. The next day, we actually wanted to go to Canberra but the car rentals were fully booked so we had to abandon the plan. Went to the city instead. QVB exceeded my expectations. Hyde Park was nice as well. Also spent some time idling along the harbour, wish every day could be like postcard perfect such as this, haha. And flying back to Melbourne on Christmas Day which is today.. went to Shrine of Remembrance and Albert Park.

I think I missed a lot of places we went too, there's just so many detours that I can't remember till I see the pictures. Just got to wait till I sort out the pictures then.. hahaha. Hmm.. masterpieces... Don't know if I have them pg! lol..

I'm dead tired, will update more with pics soon!

Engineer
Results are out, and I'm a qualified engineer! although I don't feel like one. hahah. The past week has been quite interesting. OCF Convention was pretty allright, although I didn't really connect with other people, and it was my first time being a part timer at camp. My group was really good though, learnt quite a lot and it was interesting to see other centres coming together to unite in the same purpose. Came back on Wed nite, and flew to Sydney on Thu dawn for work reasons. My first 'business' trip! hahaha.. Few hours later I was on the flight back to Melbourne and in the evening had dinner at hardware lane with char siu, and later on coffee with dot and ts also. Friday was work as usual, and was cleaning the house on Fri nite. Had steamboat at shake's house on Sat night, and Sunday had dinner at Auntie Oi Lee's house. Monday off to Sydney again for training, and few minutes ago I just came back. I was walking around my hotel in search of civilisation yday nite, and ended up in Parramatta, but somehow I got lost for a while and panicked a bit. Fortunately I managed to find the landmark I was looking for and managed to get back to the hotel safely. Well, that's my little misadventure in Sydney. Plus, I was staying next to Rydges, hahaha.. I know what you're thinking dipso. Will put more pictures later, I'm just so dead tired!!

Summer is here
Someone asked me to write an emo post. Well, I'm having such a packed schedule it's hard to describe what I'm feeling, or whether I'm having the time to reflect on what is transpired. Indeed, the past week or so was filled with so much fun but also having a sense of foreboding, that it is all gonna be the final time I'll see some people. And knowing me, I'm lousy at saying goodbyes, because I just don't know what is the right thing to say when you're not gonna see someone anymore. Oh well, I wonder if perhaps a simple "take care" will do because I really do mean it.

Thanksgiving Night was the final ocf of the year. Returnees presented 2 songs, which I was part of. 2 simple songs speaking of God's love and a commandment to love each other. Isn't that what it's all about. Haha. The sketch presented was hmmm.. very funny. Year after year I've not missed a thanksgiving because of my perpetually late exams, and this year it's my turn to get farewelled, how sad. The night ended quite early, and we went around taking pictures and saying farewells, and it was supper at notturno afterwards..

people i'll miss so dear...

In between thanksgiving night, there were chocolate buddhas and melbourne laneways that kept me occupied :)

The church also farewelled the returnees on Sunday, and then we had lunch at Noodle Kingdom again, not very nice lah the food this time. After that, played basketball before going to Chun Po in Camberwell for dinner organised by Charles. 14 of us in a very big table, and the food was excellent.Had to order 2 rounds though, because we underestimated the power of hungry stomachs.

how thoughtful..

Back to the grind on Monday, having to wake up early every weekday is such a boo boo. My only other activity besides work on the weekday was dinner with ph on Thu nite on Lygon. Friday night had dinner at rumelli's on Sydney Rd. Haha, this place is quite different because there was entertainment in the form of belly dancers! haha..

Today's the first day of summer, and what better place to go than St Kilda beach? So we did exactly that today, having lunch at the galleon, a retro-ish cafe at st Kilda. The fan, fridge, bar, floor etc were all reminiscent of the old kopi tiams back home. Except that the food was Western instead of kolo mee, laksa or nasi lemak back home. It was also the final time we hung out together, because wm and ph leaving after convention already. Sat there for about 3 hours, then we went to 7 Apples for gelati before proceeding to the beach...

I was the one taking the picture..heheh. It's gonna be another hectic week ahead.. Going for ocf convention and some travelling!
