time is money
this week's been a constant rush for time, but amazingly i've managed to find time to waste as well. I donno how, but I just do. Like, wat am I doing here? one thing that has come to my attention though, is that RABiT lab is spooky when you're alone there at night. out of the point as always but anyway...

Had this birthday celebration for jenson on sat. We went to this mongolian bbq place on exhition st. Quite a nice place with a unique way of cooking your food. No. they don't blow up your food with C4. hahaha. sick joke... Anyway it's the first time also that I've been to dinner with so many coursemates. Was really funny when we talked about how our course is so deprived of the fairer sex. I wonder how is the female enrollment in our juniors' years. My feeling is that it's gone down. Which means even more sadness for them.hahahah..

Now's probably the busiest time of the year in terms of assignments. Have to keep reminding myself that it's the home lap...

what's up
So what have I been up to?

grace ping's birthday was nice. smashing cake into someone's face is always nice. The dinner at Kum Den was good too, except I wasn't full after coming late. They had a unique way of bringing out the birthday cake, where they play the birthday song on the P.A as the cake's being brought up. No need for us to sing. And grace claimed it was the nicest bday song she's ever heard. hahaa

Saturday morning was spent cooking, then rushing off to the lab getting a presentation done, before rushing back for ocf e-nite. good food, good company, good message and good laughs on a saturday evening. Went to gym with ph after that. After many a days without gb here, I've lost the passion for going to they gym. Everyone needs motivation I guess.

Skipped church on Sunday to watch cartoons. hahaha.. yeah that'll be me if I was 15, but I really did skip church to do work in the lab, and participate in the University OpenDay. Was just sitting around doing project work while curious onlookers came by to ask questions. It was pretty quiet where I was stationed though. Good thing.

Was just thinking.. I did take up mechanical engineering because I really was inspired by the 'coolness' factor in mech engineering - cars, machines, engines, weapons... 4 years down the road, I think I've lost some of that sense of wonder or awe that engineering seems to pose initially. Probably swallowed up by terribly complex maths and incessant assignments. I'm still passionate abt mech engineering though.. well maybe just with an awareness that it's not just all pretty cars and loud engines.. but lots of maths and hard thinking!! In the end I think this is the only path that I'm able to do well at.. not arts. not law. not commerce. and definitely not medicine.

So what do we get after sitting around all day?

I think it's one of the nicest vouchers or slips of paper I've come across. Printed on gold paper some more. Definitely much nicer than the ocf convention ball ticket. hahaha..

Had industrial mentor meeting today which went not bad. Quite a relief.. And I'm feeling lazy again.

why are there so many emo posts these days?
This was over one month ago..

And we're back again..

Probably the final ever farewell for serene (how many did we have??) , at oriental spoon, the venue we farewelled her the last time around. This time we celebrated her birthday too. Emo a bit.. From serene I learned many things, and one thing I will miss is her strong and funny observations of people around her. farewell my friend..

ball '07
After the photo taking session at serene's graduation, the next event for the day was the convention ball which was at albert by the lake, a convention centre beside Albert Park Lake. The ocf girls dressed resplendently for the night, so different from the usual top and jeans which uni students have grown accustomed to.

There was a very well presented skit which had a powerful message - sometimes the things you wish for are right in front of you, and so cherish and appreciate what you've got now. With everyone dressed to the nines, cameras were flashing everywhere, everyone just wanted to capture the moment. And so we did..

jamie's so funny in the pics.. haha..

Not often do we see ties, suits, dresses, make-up, high heels and jewelry adorning ocf-ers, so this was certainly a very memorable event.

What a whirlwind weekend.. a wave of emotions, a lot to contemplate and piles of work to catch up on!

menara gading
This has been a most emo week.. Gb's back for her graduation...Friday afternoon we went to Charlie's Place on a famous Melbourne cafe lane, a place with dodgy looking entrance but was actually a very nice underground cafe. Had a nice time hanging out.. indeed the thing with old friends is that they may change but what is unchanging is our faith. Well yeah, but gb is still the same! haha..

Here's the photos from her graduation this morning..

It was a gloomy day but as we were taking photos the sun emerged from among the clouds. So it's kind of like our uni life.. Sometimes we feel we are so down, so unmotivated and so disillusioned, but just at the right time God sends us angels in the form of friends, at times to rebuke us, at times to pick us up, at times to push us on, at times to cheer us, and at times a shoulder to cry on.

"Tuntutlah ilmu hingga ke menara gading".. that's an old Malay saying which means to seek knowledge to the pinnacle of ivory. haha.. direct translation. But you get the point. Serene's achieved that indeed. My turn will come soon enough. The sweat, blood and tears will perhaps be worth it in the end..

from up high
Rialto Towers and Eureka Towers (far left, in the background) standing tall over the Melbourne skyline. I've always liked the big city feel of major cities like KL and Penang. Penang feels old town-ish but it is modern. KL is just the quintessential big city - LRTs, massive jams, smog covered streets, mega shopping malls.. as opposed to Melbourne, which is culture rich, with quaint malls, noisy trams and freakish weather. But still got traffic jam lah.

Kuching. Where the public transport is a shame, and the sampans are more reliable. Meow..

pinky..

Haha.. Avril Lavigne's new hair looks uncannily like one of Mike's previous hair dos. Not sure if he'll be pleased or annoyed by that..

spoke too soon
Had an encounter with tram inspectors again today after work.. twice!! Uniformed and plain clothes ones. Why are they so many of them these days? Melbourne's economy must not have been too good. One thing I've noticed is that they tend to target international students particularly asians. Why? Maybe indeed it is international students who evade tram fares the most. But it is so blatantly obvious that they target yellow skinned people to have their tickets checked first. There was once I got on the tram and seeing that there was some tram officers,I immediately punched my ticket. One moment later, the tram officer was in my face asking me to show him my ticket. You get the picture.

Anyway, it's getting warmer. Hopefully it's not just a temporal shift in the climate pattern.

midweek entry
My internet’s so slow that I think this post might not even finish publishing. And I’ve got a feeling that someone’s been hacking my internet account and using up my quota. Oh well. Shit happens.

Went for sheralyn’s belated birthday dinner tonight. Oriental spoon again. We had the sweet chilli chicken which we ordered the last time around, the hotplate bulgogi, claypot seafood and the obligatory kimchi jigae. I did not eat the whole day (had classes and assignment meetings) so when the food came it was nice. Company was good too. Grace asked me to buy green tea or choc mousse birthday cake, but I purposely bought the mango cake. haha. Don't know why she seems annoyed though. After the satisfying dinner, some of the girls and I went to Coles Central to get some stuff before tramming home. "You cannot rush girls". Word of wisdom from sheralyn. Ahh.. ticket inspectors again. Why don't they just go and get another job? haha OK i'm being unreasonable..

Trying not to demand perfection in the people you love is such a hard thing..
